Knowledge Management
The Case For A Knowledge Management Approach In The WorkplaceThe best management style is one based on knowledge. The knowledge management approach is one that searches for information first and answers second. To make good decisions you must have good information and knowledge. These guiding principles will help to find the right answers to issues that face any company, organization, or institution. Managers who use information will be more successful, better respected, show leadership, and will earn the trust of staff members. A company that uses knowledge management will seek data, facts, statistics, and information, to outline the best possible solutions to problems. Many times information will be in the form of brainstorming from staff members and other employees. Information does not always have to come from a book or a magazine. The concept of constructive dialog from your own employees can bring a new perspective on old problems. The value of a "team effort" should not be overlooked. There is a place for total quality management in the workplace and at other organizations that are trying to achieve goals and objectives. Education is a key role for employees taking an active role in bringing about change and new solutions for your business. Just because a business, company, organization, or institution is using a knowledge management style does not mean instant success. With a knowledge based design for solving problems it does take time and work to achieve outcomes. It is not easy to accept some ideas about a project that are totally out of line but any ideas should be respected and acknowledged no matter how far "off base". The dignity of the worker must not be diminished. The value of the person must always be a part of the formula of a knowledge management approach. Your efforts will show results as your team members experience that system and how it works. If this knowledge management system is totally new, more time will be needed to show results. Employees will eventually learn to trust the approach and system and become more efficient with time. Employees will be happier with the company and with themselves. Happy people make happy employees. |
